The 12th Lefkoşa Marathon: A Run for Life

The Lefkoşa Marathon, organized by the Lefkoşa Turkish Municipality (LTB) in cooperation with the TRNC Athletics Federation, is one of the most popular and prestigious running events in North Cyprus. The marathon, which started in 2008 with only 500 participants, has grown steadily over the years and reached a record number of 11,924 runners in 2022¹. The marathon is also certified and validated by AIMS (International Association of Marathons and Distance Running) for its 10 km, 21 km and 42 km races¹.

The 12th edition of the Lefkoşa Marathon will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2024, with three different categories: 4 km public run, 10 km race and 21 km race. The marathon aims to promote a healthy and active lifestyle, as well as to raise awareness and funds for a social cause. This year, the theme of the marathon is “A Run for Life”, and all the proceeds will be used to support the new Life Center (Yaşam Merkezi), a project that will provide various services and activities for the elderly in the capital under one roof².

The Lefkoşa Marathon is not only a sporting event, but also a cultural and social festival that brings together people from different backgrounds, ages and abilities. The marathon attracts runners from all over Cyprus and abroad, as well as celebrities, politicians, artists and civil society representatives. The marathon also features live music, entertainment, food and drink stalls, and a prize ceremony at the historic Büyük Han¹.

The registration for the Lefkoşa Marathon is open until October 18, 2024, for the 10 km and 21 km races, and until October 20, 2024, for the 4 km public run.  The participants will receive a T-shirt, a medal, a certificate and a goody bag.
